Crossbow killer and former Tulsa police officer up for parole

In prison since 1985

By Don Bishop

The former Tulsa police officer convicted of killing a woman with a crossbow may be getting out of prison.

The State Pardon and Parole Board tells us 59-year old Jimmie Dean Stohler has been behind bars since 1985.

He got there after he was convicted of shooting Michele Rae Powers in the chest with an arrow that had poison on it.

Stohler has appealed his conviction several times on grounds that his attorney was ineffective.

Turns out, Stohler's attorney married Stohler's ex-wife Kay back in 1989.

The Tulsa County District Attorney's office has been against Stohler's parole all along.

Stohler needs Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin's approval before he can be set free.
