Construction starts on multiple Tulsa roads today

Drivers will have more orange barrels to dodge now that three new construction projects are starting.

Two are on the streets of Tulsa: one on 21st from Peoria to Lewis, the other near 15th and Memorial.

The City of Tulsa told KRMG the project on 21st Street will consist of removing the old road including subgrade and rebuilding up from the road bed. Construction includes new concrete pavement, new waterlines, new storm sewers and sanitary sewers as needed, new curb, gutter and sidewalks. Traffic signals will be replaced at the intersections of Utica, Wheeling, Yorktown and Lewis avenues.

Traffic will be bottlenecked to one lane each way. The city says that one should be completed by summer of 2017.

A second street project starts today on 15th Street.

The city said 15th will be rehabbed between 76th East Avenue and Memorial and will be limited to one lane, eastbound only, until mid-September. Construction will occur in the westbound lanes during this time. Either East 11th Street or East 21st Street is recommended as an alternate route for westbound traffic.

On the highways, Highway 169 will undergo a major facelift.

The roadway will be widened and eight bridges replaced between 56th Street North and 66th Street North.
