Big changes are made on Interstate 244 during the past weekend and a big change will come Tuesday morning.

Rush hour drivers on eastbound I-244 certainly noticed the long line of brake lights as I-244 is narrowed and the right lane is closed from roughly Memorial to just past the Highway 169 interchange.

Last week, you may remember the inside shoulder and lane were closed so crews could do some road work for the lane shift that took place this past weekend.

You will begin to see crews replacing the pavement and the bridge decks on eastbound I-244 during the coming weeks with the right lane expected to be closed for several months.

There is also a big change taking place Tuesday morning at 9 when the Highway 169 southbound ramp to eastbound I-244 will be closed.

"We are recommending that drivers that are southbound on 169 just continue south to the I-44 junction and you will be able to take that eastbound exit in order to reconnect with 244 near 129th East Avenue," says the Oklahoma Department of Transportation's Kenna Mitchell.

She anticipates the southbound Highway 169 ramp closure to eastbound I-244 will be in place until August.

The entire construction project on I-244 is slated to take 14 months.
