TULSA, Okla. —

State Representative Mike Ritze is praising Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt for filing a federal lawsuit in an effort to stop the construction of a Kialegee casino in Broken Arrow.

"Attorney General Scott Pruitt should be commended on taking such swift action in support of Broken Arrow residents," said Ritze.

The Broken Arrow Republican lawmaker requested an official opinion from the Office of the Attorney General on the legality of the proposed casino in early January.

Pruitt’s lawsuit cites the tribe’s failure to seek federal approval for its lease of the property, which he alleges violates the requirements of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

“There is strong local opposition to this casino and a legal question about how they leased the property.

Broken Arrow residents do not want this casino and the negative effects it will have on our community,” Ritze said.

“We plan to fight this construction in any way that we can.”
