Trader Joe's to open in Tulsa

(TULSA) - Trader Joe's has officially announced it's opening a store in Brookside.

“This is great news for the city of Tulsa and opens up the door to an entirely new retail market,” Mayor Dewey Bartlett said.

Tulsa's Young Professionals have lobbied hard to get the company to open a location here.

“Tulsa and Trader Joe’s are a match made in the produce aisle of heaven," said TyPros Executive Director Shagah Zakerion. "Our city’s love affair with this quirky grocer is well-documented and undeniable, and it’s no wonder its lineup of specialty health-conscious products fits well with Tulsans’ sophisticated tastes."

The popular store is known for specialy items like exotic nuts and quality olive oil. The grocer also carries a large variety of cheeses and dog treats.

The site is expected to open in late 2015 at the corner of 37th and Peoria Ave.

Trader Joe's isn't the only grocery store to announce a first for Oklahoma. Costco is going up at 103rd and Memorial and is also expected to be open sometime this year.

Both stores are national chains that sell alcohol, which isn't legal in Oklahoma.

Costco's plan calls for a liquor store right next to the grocery building.
