Oklahoma City, OK —
A group seeking to put a bipartisan presidential ticket on the November ballot in all 50 states has gathered enough signatures for a spot on Oklahoma's ballot, but the Libertarian Party fell short in its attempt.
Oklahoma Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax (ZEER'-ax) said Friday that Americans Elect gathered more than 68,000 signatures from registered voters. The group needed 51,739 signatures to be a recognized political party.
The Libertarian Party gathered about 41,000 valid signatures— falling short of the threshold. The Libertarian Party is a plaintiff in a lawsuit seeking to get access to the ballot.
Former U.S. Sen. and Oklahoma Gov. David Boren has endorsed Americans Elect's attempt to put a bipartisan ticket on the ballot. Boren says the country's two-party system is in need of "shock therapy."
