By Rick Couri

American Airlines workers across the country are protesting planned layoffs today and Tulsa is no exception. More than 13,000 jobs will be trimmed across the airlines with over 2000 of those jobs to be eliminated in Tulsa. Workers say they are showiwng their displeasure because the cuts hurt not just the airlines and the workers but the city as well.

Workers at many airports marched with signs and slogans in an effort to bring attention to their situation.

The airline announced it would be filing bankruptcy in November and later said Tulsa would be hit hard with layoffs and movement of jobs. American and its labor unions have been at odds in the way things are worked out and the protest is a part of that. Not all of the many union’s American deals with will take part. The pilots union decided to not be a part of today’s activities.

Airports around the nation are not reporting slowdowns due to the protest which is scheduled to last through early afternoon.
