Actor with Tulsa roots goes to bat for firefighters

Actor Josh Henderson, who grew up in Tulsa and went on to have a successful career on TV series like "Dallas" and "Desperate Housewives," has personal reasons for getting involved in a campaign to help out fire stations around the country.

He's lent his face and voice to "Saving the Butts that Save Our Butts," a program whereby toilet tissue giant Charmin give tens of thousands of rolls of tissue to fire houses around the country.

Josh's grandfather was a firefighter in Dallas, he tells KRMG, and actually died in a fire.

He said many firehouses around the country struggle to make their budgets, and in many of them, firefighters even have to provide their own toilet paper.

"These guys risk their lives every day for us, they should have toilet paper at the firehouses," he told KRMG. "So this campaign, it's a simple thing, but I think it's a very important thing. These men and women deserve this stuff."

Henderson moved to Tulsa when he was five, and attended Carnegie Elementary, Nimitz Middle School, before graduating from Memorial High.

Charmin accepted nominations from around the country, and has chosen 100 fire houses to get a year's supply of free toilet tissue.

They haven't released the list yet, but Henderson confirms one of them is in the Tulsa area.

If you'd like to help out, you can visit the Charmin Relief Project web page.

Download a coupon for a dollar off on Charmin, and the company will donate another roll of tissue to firefighters.
