KABUL, Afghanistan —

KRMG news has learned President Barack Obama has made an unannounced visit to Afghanistan on the anniversary of Osama bin Laden's death.

The President will also engage in talks with Afghan leaders regarding the U.S. role in that nation's affairs over the next several years.

Associated Press reports indicate that "under intense security and the cover of night" the President slipped into the embattled country.

He is slated to sign an agreement with Afghan President Hamid Karzai that will govern how the two countries will cooperate after the United States pulls its forces out, a move currently scheduled to happen toward the end of 2014.

KRMG also heard from the White House by email.

They tell us, "President Barack Obama is in Afghanistan for a whirlwind visit that will culminate in a live, televised address to the American people."

The White House adds that, "Obama left at 1209 AM Tuesday morning and arrived at Bagram at 10:20 pm local time. He landed via chopper at LZ near presidential palace at just after 11pm local."

He will address the nation this evening at 6:30 p.m. Central Time. KRMG will carry his remarks live at AM 740, FM 102.3 and online at KRMG.com.
