The nurse works at A Glenwood Gardens, a California senior living facility north of Los Angeles. She called 911 after an 87 year old woman began having trouble breathing and eventually died.

The nurse reached Bakersfield fire dispatcher Tracey Halvorson who was stunned when the worker refused to perform CPR.

Listen to the entire 911 call here.

On the tape, Halvorsen is heard pleading with the nurse “is there anybody that’s willing to help this lady and not let her die?" After a pause the nurse said "um, not at this time." The nurse told Halvorsen that the facility has a policy against staff administering CPR.

Halverson then asked if the nurse could find someone else, a resident or someone not employed at the facility to help. The nurse responded with "I’m feeling stressed, and I’m not going to do that, make that call."

The administer in charge of the facility sent a statement to KGET radio saying “In the event of a health emergency at this independent living community our practice is to immediately call emergency medical personnel for assistance and to wait with the individual needing attention until such personnel arrives.”
