The law of unintended consequences has reared its head.
More than a dozen children under the age of 12 have ended up in one emergency room since 2009 with injuries related to having ingested marijuana.
In each instance the kids were able to get their hands on things like brownies, candy bars, and other food items with pot cooked or baked into them.
Drug researchers in Denver explained what happens when the kids eat the marijuana infused foods.
"The biggest thing we are concerned about is the level of sedation in these kids,” he began.
“They get enough that they're so sleepy that it affects how they breathe, or they fall and hit their head."
Eight kids ended up in the hospital with two serious enough to be admitted to the ICU.
