TULSA, Okla. - Scammers can steal your credit card information and they don't need to get into your wallet to do it.
They just need to be near you with the right equipment.
It happened to one KRMG listener who didn't know she was a victim until her credit card company called with the bad news. She says, "They either had a handheld scanner or a cell phone with some kind of a scanning app on it that allowed them to scan right through my purse."
Her card did have a microchip on it.
You can take action to protect yourself. Most major retailers sell protective sleeves and wallets that won't let scanners read your card.
