Jacqueline Gomez had been very excited about her prom. She proudly showed friends her dress, and sought advice on making her nails look their best.
The party was held at the Hyatt Hotel in Houston. When it was over, Gomez and her date went to a room upstairs but not before a friend gave her a warning.
"I told her right before left, she left early, I told her, 'Come here, just please be safe, Jackie.' And I gave her a hug, and she left."
It was the last time her classmates saw her alive.
Police told KHOU they think Gomez died from a combination of alcohol and prescription painkillers.
ABC 13 reports a woman with a room nearby said there was partying noise coming from the room most of the night.
Cops say Jacqueline's date made a panicked call to 911 the next morning. He told emergency operators Gomez wasn’t breathing and admitted to the use of the painkillers and booze.
"We have no reason to believe that he at all contributed to this death," a detective said.
