Peter Asumani told police in Nebraska his father fell due to a wet floor. The boy said after the fall, his dad continued breathing but couldn’t talk or move.
Peter made sure his father had liquids and watched after him until school workers called police to tell them that Peter had missed four days of school.
45-year-old Bienvenu Asumani died later on at a hospital after being found in the home.
Responders said when they arrived on the scene Asumani was breathing and his eyes were open, but he was unable to respond in any way.
Peter has been placed in state custody and is now in foster care.
Police say they aren’t sure if the boy knew he could have called 911 to ask for help right away.
Peter and his father lived alone.
