TULSA - A text message from a woman who said her boyfriend had beaten her and was holding her at gunpoint triggered a huge police response early Wednesday morning in south Tulsa.
Police responded to the Cascata Apartments near E. 81st and S. Mingo Road a little after 3:30 a.m.
TPD Capt. Wendell Franklin told KRMG at the scene that initially police had a hard time identifying the right apartment.
They found a phone number for the complex's security, and they were able to help police find the right unit.
People living in the floor below the apartment confirmed that they could hear movement, so officers knew someone was inside.
But no one would come to the door when police knocked, and after a few hours the TPD Special Operations Team was called to the scene.
As SOT began arriving, the man finally opened the door and surrendered to police.
They recovered the gun and arrested the man.
Capt. Franklin says the woman had visible injuries, but wasn't seriously hurt.
No names were released.
