Woman may have faked pregnancy and story about burying fetus

A search for the buried fetus of a West Siloam Springs woman has come to an end.

Police say the woman's continued lies have made the investigation difficult.

The mother of three, 32-year-old Stacy Leigh Belt, told police she had a baby boy on February 13th.  Police say she told them the Arkansas Department of Human Services took the child because she had no pre-natal care.

It turns out the delivery never happened.  Belt told police she had a miscarriage back in August and buried the fetus in her yard.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations searched the yard on Tuesday and Wednesday.  OSBI said nothing was found.

Police say Belt swears she had the miscarriage, but no evidence has been found.

Belt has three young daughters.  Police say all three children have been taken into protective custody.

"This is why I don't feel like we've wasted man power," an officer says.  "We got those three children out of the house."

She was arrested earlier in the week on multiple counts of child neglect.  Police say the living conditions inside the home were horrible.

"One of the worst I've seen," the officer says.

Belt is no longer in the Delaware County Jail.
