Weekly flu report to be released

OKLAHOMA CITY —

The Oklahoma State Department of Health is to release its weekly reports on the number of Oklahoma confirmed with the flu and the number who have died as a result of the illness.

The report is to be released Thursday. The most recent statistics released last week show 23 people have died due to the flu and that 798 have been hospitalized.

The department reported nine deaths and 316 hospitalizations because of flu during last year's flu season — down from 872 hospitalizations and 26 deaths two years ago.

The flu season generally runs from September through May.
