Brandy Majors was in jail for an auto theft that she claims she had nothing to do with. That’s the easy part of the story to understand, from there things get weird.
Majors is accused of escaping from the Marion County, Indiana jail during the process of being moved from one block to another.
She was gone for 36 hours before anyone noticed she was missing.
Majors saw a story saying she had broken out of jail so she took a chance and called a reporter at the TV station.
The woman hoped the reporter Russ McQuaid, could help her set things straight so she agreed to meet him at a public park.
There she told him she was let go, walked into the front of the jail and made a call before waiting for her ride and then going home.
Majors was in trouble last year in another county until it was found that she had been the victim of an identity theft and wasn’t the person who committed the crime. In that case, she was released and charges were dropped.
She claims she believed the same thing was happening this time.
But as Majors was talking to McQuaid a sheriff’s deputy who had trailed the TV crew drove up, arrested Brandy for escape, and sped away.
Majors is still being held on auto theft charges with the possibility of escape charges being added.
