Update: Serial rapist released, ordered to live in small town

A judge ordered that 63-year-old Christopher Evans Hubbart must live in a less populated area, despite residents’ concerns.

The Santa Clara County, California judge issued an order Friday saying must be released from prison by July 7. He'll be allowed to rent a house in a remote area near Palmdale.

Hubbart has acknowledged raping and assaulting about 40 women between 1971 and 1982. Authorities place the number of victims closer to 100.

Residents in the small community say the area has become a "dumping ground" for sexual predators.

People who live in the rural county are urging a judge to change his mind about sending a serial rapist to live in the area because it is less populated.

The convict is scheduled to be released from a state mental hospital. Upon his release, a California judge has ordered him to leave Los Angeles County and live in Antelope Valley, a rural area in California.

But people who live there say that very same thing has happened over and over, resulting in a bunch of convicts all living there.

The Santa Clara County judge held a six-hour hearing in San Jose to hear comments and opinions on where the rapist, Christopher Hubbart, should live.

The judge had previously determined that Hubbart should live in Antelope Valley because the convicted rapist was born and raised in LA County.
