TULSA - A tragic autopedestrian accident claimed the life of a 4-year-old girl at a west Tulsa elementary school Tuesday.
Paramedics, firefighters and Tulsa police were called to Park Elementary School near 41st and Southwest Boulevard around 3:15 p.m.
Police Sgt. Vic Regalado told KRMG at the scene that the little girl had walked to the school to pick up a sibling with her mother.
She darted away from the mom and into the path of a car driven by another parent, also there to pick up a child.
Investigators say it doesn't appear the driver was negligent or did anything to cause the accident.
Her car struck the child, who died before help could arrive.
Police have not released the names of any of the people involved yet.
They urge drivers to be especially careful around school zones, as the tragic incident points out just how quickly things can go terribly wrong, and how unpredictable is the behavior of young children.
