Union edges Jenks 14-7 in Midfirst Bank Backyard Bowl

The Midfirst Bank Backyard Bowl between Jenks and Union came down to the final moments, again. The Redskins Justin Silman scored on a five yard run the play after Union recovered a Jenks fumble with 5:47 left. That proved to be enough as the Redskins held on to beat the Trojans 14-7 at the University of Tulsa’s H.A. Chapman Stadium on Friday night.

The game was tied 7-7 at the half after the teams traded quick touchdowns in the first quarter. The Trojans opened the scoring when Trey'Vonne Barr'e went 45 yards for a touchdown but the lead was short lived. Union’s Khalid Kornegay proceeded to return the kickoff 85 yards for a score to tie it at seven.

Jenks then flushed away their best chance at another lead when the Trojans muffed a handoff inside the Union ten yard line. The Redskins recovered and were able to work the ball out of their end of the field before giving it back to Jenks on a punt. The Trojans also missed a 31 yard field goal late in the third period before the turning points in the fourth.

It’s the fourth straight win in the series for Union.
