The hairless terrier and sloughi join nearly 200 other breeds currently recognized by the American Kennel Club.
The organization describes the hairless terriers as mostly “bare-skinned,” but say some have very short coats. Lovers of the animals call them “terrier-smart," but with more calm dispositions than other terriers.
The sloughi is a sleek dog bred to chase after large, fast game such as the gazelle. Experts say they closely resemble Salukis with long, thin legs and thicker chests.
Sloughis are noted to be graceful animals with great speed, outstanding endurance, and quiet behavior.
The breeds can now take part in AKC competitions but won’t debut in the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club show until 2017.
