Two drivers die in crash on Highway 169

Tulsa, Okla. — A fatality collision on Monday night on U.S. 169 in Nowata County is deadly for both drivers.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was driven by 41-year old Matthew A. Ray from Chanute, KS.

Ray was pinned for approximately 33 minutes and was extricated by the Delaware Fire Department.

He was pronounced dead on scene due to massive injuries sustained in the collision.

A 2003 Nissan Maxima driven by 37-year old Barbara A Stewart of Nowata was pinned for approximately 37 minutes and was extricated by the Nowata Fire Department.

Stewart was pronounced dead on the scene due to massive injuries sustained in the collision.

Ray was traveling southbound on U.S. 169 as Stewart was traveling northbound near County Road 17.

Ray’s vehicle crossed the center line and collided head on with Stewart’s vehicle.
