Tulsa to launch trash education program

The Tulsa Trash Board is going to launch an educational program.

Tulsa debuted the Pay as You Throw trash program last year for more than 116,000 residents. In the educational campaign officials will address green waste disposal, the benefits of composting, how to handle extra waste, how to handle extra waste that doesn't fit inside of the refuse cart; how to establish or change service; our community services such as bulky waste pickup, dead animal collection and littler control.

Officials said this is a brand new program that will likely evolve as staff and TARE review current operations and make adjustments based upon operational efficiency and customer feedback.

The program will cost $350,000, officials say that breaks down to a minimum of $3-5 per household to educate them per recommendations from the Solid Waste Association of North America.

Officials said in preparation for the new system, TARE budgeted $3 per HH for program outreach efforts for FY 2013 and respectively for FY 2014. These funds were budgeted and approved in 2010/2011.

There will be a website and outreach will begin in neighborhoods, community centers and more. FOX23 will let you know when they launch the program.
