TULSA'S ELECTION HQ: Runoff today for Tulsa County Clerk, official keeper of the records

There's a run-off Tuesday in the Tulsa County Clerks race between Republicans Pat Key and Dean Martin.

We wondered whether anyone really knows what a county clerk, does?

Most of the people we approached with that question had no clue of the responsibilities of a County Clerk.

Answers we got ranged from “they manage tickets and ticket paying,” to “sit in an office in a county building, doing nothing and getting paid big bucks.”

We looked it up and according to Oklahoma statutes the duties of a County Clerk include serving as the official keeper of numerous county records.

The County Clerk also prepares and posts agendas and maintains meeting minutes for the following boards:  County Commission, Budget Board, Excise Board, Retirement Board, Tax Roll Correction Board, Equalization Board and the Industrial Authority.
