Tulsa councilor turns trash carts into dog houses

There's plenty of talk about keeping trash out of landfills.

Tulsa City Councilor had the idea to keep trash CARTS out of landfills too, and make some free dog houses for folks in the process.

He and other volunteers have been making the conversions at Patrick's Auto Shop on Dawson Road in northeast Tulsa.

They give them a good cleaning, remove all the wheels and other hardware, cut a hole in the lid and voila..!  Instant dog house.

Patrick says he's been surprised by the demand.

"Boy at first I couldn't get them made fast enough, they were just going right out the door," Patrick said.

He said demand has slacked off somewhat, but he expects it will continue.

The carts are left over from the city's Northwest Quadrant.

Thousands of the carts had to be changed out, because the old ones weren't compatible with the city's new trash service.
