Troopers seriously injured in crash involving slain TPD officer’s procession

TULSA — At least three OHP troopers were seriously injured late Thursday morning in a crash on the Kilpatrick Turnpike as they were escorting the body of a slain Tulsa police officer to a hospital for organ donation.

It appears one of the motorcycle units struck a silver SUV, but it remains unclear if the SUV was in the procession or was a civilian vehicle.

KRMG has learned two of the troopers work in the Tulsa area; they were both treated and released.

A third trooper, who works in the Oklahoma City area, remains hospitalized late Thursday afternoon, but should recover.

Sgt. Johnson and TPD Ofcr. Aurash Zarkeshan were shot multiple times during a traffic stop early Monday morning near E. 21st Street and S. Garnett Ave.

Ofcr. Zarkeshan remains hospitalized, but Sgt. Johnson succumbed to his wounds Tuesday afternoon.

The wreck occurred about 11:20 a.m. near the junction of the Kilpatrick Turnpike and the Broadway Extension.

OHP Capt. Paul Timmons said the driver of the SUV was a civilian female, but offered no details on the crash.

He said it will likely be next week before OHP will release any additional information.
