Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says right now they only have about a third of the number of recruits for their upcoming academy compared to past years.
"Y'know when I went through patrol academy over 16 years ago, I know there were over 900 or a thousand applicants," said OHP Captain George Brown, "And that was the case for years to follow, and now we're at the point where we don't have that large number."
He said right now they have 390 people signed up for the academy that starts in January of 2014.
The current sign-up period closes in about three weeks on June 30, 2013.
Brown said they don't really know why the numbers have dropped off.
He says OHP has a competitive salary and benefits package.
