TPD crackdown on speeders to last for rest of March

In a single day, motorcycle officers taking part in a crackdown on speeders on two busy Tulsa highways wrote 143 citations, including 99 speeding tickets, and they plan to continue their operation through the end of the month.

Thursday, they targeted U.S. 169 around E. 36th St. North, and the Broken Arrow Expressway near the E. 41st St. bridge.

Traffic enforcement patrol cars have also taken part in the operation.

Cpl. Brian Collum told KRMG this morning the primary goal is not to see how many tickets they can write, but to encourage people to slow down, obey traffic laws, and drive more safely.

"If they see officers out here, then word gets around, and then even when we're not out here they slow down because they think we could be," Cpl. Collum said.  "Our goal really isn't the citations, it's to get people to slow down and be safe."

The operation to focus on the BA Expressway and U.S. 169 will continue through the end of the month.
