The law first came about in the 1990’s and said businesses in the downtown area of the city were to “cease display of flags other than American flag.”
Leaders say the law was meant to help beautify the area and keep all displays in order.
But Culhane's Irish Pub didn’t like it and neither did a Greek restaurant, both were told to remove the flags they used to add to the atmosphere of their restaurants.
The Greek spot was targeted first and made noise when Culhane’s wasn’t.
But when officials made Culhane’s take down their flag the town started getting letters from Ireland. One city leader said "some of it was really, really nasty."
This week commissioners voted to not enforce the law until they could make it more clear.
