The heat of summer is in full swing in Oklahoma.
Many of us deal with it while doing the weekend chores or simply walking from the house to the car. Some folks, many actually, work in the heat every day.
Gerald and Jimmy Shaw, of Shaw’s Masonry, were hard at work in south Tulsa putting the rock up on a home near 81st and Elwood when they told KRMG their tricks to stay cool.
“We just take more breaks, seems that’s about all you can do working out in the sun like this.” Gerald said.
“Just drains you.” Jimmy said. “Takes all the energy out of you.” He continued.
Jimmy said his best tip is to our some cold water on your head and stay in the shade for a few minutes.
EMSA told KRMG six people were treated on Sunday alone for heat-related symptoms. Paramedics say pre-hydrating, drinking water ahead of time, is one of the most effective ways to avoid heat related illnesses.
