Thieves targeting license plate stickers

It’s not new by any means; thieves have targeted license plates for years.

But DMV employees at Tulsa tag agencies tell KRMG they’re seeing it quite a bit these days. Thieves will carefully peel off your ‘year’ sticker and stick it on their own car.

It’s not only annoying for victims, but it’s a bit costly too. It won’t break the bank, but no one wants to stand in line at the tag office and pay $13 for a replacement sticker. That’s the flat fee if your tag is already up to date.

Thieves even hit one of our own, KRMG Intern Margo Blue.

“My 2015 sticker was gone, so it looked like I had an expired tag, but someone actually stole my sticker.” Blue said.

The DMV recommends drivers cut an ‘X’ pattern in your sticker once it’s on your car. That way if someone tries to peel it off, it will come off in pieces and they can’t use it.
