TULSA - A debate that almost inspires the same level of passion as that between fans of the University of Oklahoma and those of the University of Texas involves the best route to drive to the big game from Tulsa.
Some say U.S. 75 has the most direct route, while to go to Interstate 35 then head south takes you well out of your way.
Others argue that the I-35 route involves faster speed limits and limited access freeways, while the route along U.S. 75 and U.S. 69 takes you through a number of small towns, with stoplights and slower speed limits.
So KRMG turned to an expert, Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. George Brown, and he didn't hesitate.
"Obviously, from the Tulsa metro or surrounding area, U.S. 75 Highway south is a good choice. It's the best choice."
He said that's especially true this week, because of construction on I-35 near the Norman area.
"There may be some construction going on in that area, which typically bottlenecks traffic during game day."
Highway 75, though, should provide smooth sailing.
"It looks pretty good. They've completed a lot of resurfacing projects, and to my knowledge, at least in the last couple of day, it's open," Brown said.
A check of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation OU/Texas Game Day Traffax backs him up.
We did double check with Capt. Brown though -- and all things being even, he still recommends U.S. 75 for the trip to Big D.
"75 is a little better route than I-35, especially when you're coming from Tulsa," he said.
