Terrorists prefer Gmail

Hayden was speaking to the congregation at a church near the White House covering “the tension between security and liberty."

As he defended the intelligence gathering methods that have been in the news the last few months he said "Gmail is the preferred Internet service provider of terrorists worldwide."

Hayden continued "I don't think you're going to see that in a Google commercial, but it's free, it's ubiquitous, so of course it is."

Hayden theorized that the US development of the internet may be our legacy, our version of another timeless invention.

Hayden said it might cause the United States to be remembered for the internet "the way the Romans are remembered for their roads."

But the former intelligence chief does have a bone to pick with the web. "The problem I have with the Internet is that it's anonymous," he began.
