TAKE ACTION event raises nearly $5k, two trucks of donations

Last Friday, KRMG asked listeners to "Take Action," and they really came through.

In a single day drive hosted by Duffy's Grill at 91st and Sheridan, nearly $5,000 in cash donations was raised, including a contribution from Duffy's owner Steve Chammat who pledged 20 percent of the day's sales, and then added more.

Donations of clothing, blankets, kitchen supplies, food and more completely filled a box truck, and Cox Radio brought in a second vehicle to pick up the overflow.

KRMG and Cox Radio are working on distributing the money and donated items to the people who lived in the 15 units badly damaged or completely destroyed by fire near 41st and Peoria last week.

The entire operation was conceived, launched, and completed in less than 36 hours.

KRMG plans more Take Action events in the future.
