Tahlequah man injured, arrested on explosives charges

A Tahlequah man injured himself when a blasting cap exploded as he was trying to wire it to a cell phone, according to law enforcement sources.

Local and federal authorities launched an investigation early last Friday after Jeremy Ramirez, 27, showed up at a local hospital suffering serious wounds from an apparent explosion.

A photograph of Ramirez in custody shows apparent shrapnel wounds across his torso and a heavily bandaged hand.

Investigators indicate witnesses told them Ramirez was trying to wire a blasting cap to a cell phone when it exploded, injuring him.

Subsequent searches of homes in Tahlequah and Stilwell turned up more possible explosives.

Federal charges are expected.

It's unclear what purpose Ramirez may have had in mind for the explosives.
