Students win $25 gift certificate if they "catch an immigrant"

The game is being put on by student members of the Young Conservatives for Texas.

The people being chased will be other students wearing signs saying “illegal immigrants.”

Each time a student catches one, they’ll receive a $25.00 gift certirficate.

The University says the game is a no-go but those planning it disagree.

"The purpose of this event is to spark a campus-wide discussion about the issue of illegal immigration, and how it affects our everyday lives," YCT spokesman Lorenzo Garcia told the Austin American-Statesman.

Democrats are sounding off on how displeased they are and administration at the school has threatened to kick the players off campus.

UT President Bill Powers told the AP  "the proposed YCT event is completely out of line with the values we espouse at the University of Texas at Austin."

He went on to call the game "inflammatory and demeaning."

This kind of event isn’t new.

The University of California at Berkley recently held a bake sale that featured prices based on the buyer's race, gender, and ethnicity.
