Students kicked off flight for cell phone use

About 100 high school students and eight chaperones were booted off the flight from New York to Atlanta when some students refused to put their cell phones away.

It’s part of standard procedure. You turn your phone off and put it away when the flight attendant says to turn off all electronics.

What made these kids think that they didn’t need to comply is unknown.

It was yesterday morning around 6 a.m. at LaGuardia when the pilot and flight crew became fed up with the students and kicked them off of the AirTran flight.

AirTran’s parent company, Southwest, said in a statement that the crew asked the group multiple times to comply, but not all did, so the whole group was asked to de-board the plane.

Some of the students and chaperones say the crew overreacted and that the situation should have never escalated to that point.

A representative for the school says administrators are looking into the situation, but they too believe the actions taken by AirTran were not justified.
