Storms leave Coweta drivers, residents stranded

Storms yesterday leave the power out on the north and west sides of Coweta.

News On Six Warn Team member Matt Peterson says some drivers apparently lost control in high water.

Peterson says, "There are some cars that were off the road that may have been blown off the road. But after taking a look at it, it appears maybe they just ran off the road due to heavy rain or low visibility."

He says there was quarter- up to half-dollar size hail and winds up to 60 miles an hour at 181st and Highway 75 where that particular storm first got organized. There were no reports of injury.

Update

The power is back on in Coweta.

Brittany Dampf is a dispatcher with the Coweta Police Department.
She says, "There are approximately ten electric poles that are down. Almost all of Coweta has been restored (with electric service.) They did state that we weren't supposed to have (the power) back until eight o'clock tomorrow evening so they've done a great job getting everybody back up and running. All that's left is Meadowbrook Plaza right in front of Wal-Mart. Everyone should be good to go and all the traffic lights are safe and ready to go for tomorrow morning's commute to work."
She says, "There was a barn that blew over near 101st and South 289th East Avenue, a couple of houses' fences, shingles, came off. We heard there was approximately 90-mile an hour winds that hit Coweta."

She says the storm came through just after ten last night.
