Sports Illustrated begins publishing articles critical of Oklahoma State football

The magazine's  five part series is called "The Dirty Game" and the first edition has now been published at SportsIllustrated.cnn.com. The first article is called "Money" and alleges coaches and boosters paid players for jobs not performed and performance on the field.

In the first edition the maagazine quotes former OSU defensive back Calvin Mickens. After he had played well in an early season game Mickens claims a man he didn't know approached him in the locker room and handed him $200 in cash.

"I was like, Wow, this is the life!" Mickens says. "I'm 18, playing football, and I just got $200," he  told Sports Illustrated.

The articles will continue on Tuesday with with Part 2, called "Academics." That edition will accuse the program of having tutors take tests for players and some professors changing grades to keep players eligible.

Part three publishes on Thursday and is called "Drugs." This article is expected to allege that recreational drug use was selectively overlooked and at times drug use was even enabled.

Friday's part four will cover "Sex." The piece will say members of the OSU hostess program, called Orange Pride, had sex with some recruits. The article will also draw attention to former head Les Miles and current coach Mike Gundy being involved in interviewing the candidates for the group.

The final part of the series will run online Tuesday, September 17th and be published in the magazine on September 23rd. It will be called "The Fallout." The final article will accuse the program of discarding players no longer productive on the field.

There have been questions about the researchers and writers of the articles. Specifically, fans have asked if any of those involved had ties to the University of Oklahoma.

KRMG did some digging and found the educational backgrounds of most of the men involved, they are below.

Executive editor Jon Wertheim, 1993 graduate of Yale University and received a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997.

Assistant managing editor Hank Hersch, Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Executive editor B.J. Schecter graduated with honors from Northeastern University in 1996. Graduate work at  Columbia University school of journalism.

Senior writer George Dohrmann  Graduated from Notre Dame in 1995 with a B.A. in American Studies and later earned an MFA in creative writing from the University of San Francisco. Has taught journalism classes at the Graduate School of Journalism at UC-Berkeley and at Santa Clara University.
