The Federal Highway Trust Fund is about $9 billion short on cash.
And that could put some highway projects here in Oklahoma on hold.
Oklahoma Department of Transportation officials say the amount of revenue coming in from gasoline and excise taxes has been dropping sharply for the past few years, to a point where the trust fund is at record-low levels.
ODOT says they've got funding to keep bidding projects through at least part of next March.
But beyond that, they say they'll have to start thinking about delays.
About 50-percent of ODOT'S 8-year construction plan is dependent on federal money.
