Soldier braves extreme heat to make others smile

(KANDAHAR, Afghan.) -  The temperature in Afghanistan shoots well above 100 degrees this time of year.

The forecast for the next nine days shows triple-digit heat.

“Typical day here….  it can get rough,” said Spc. Quinton Hall with the Oklahoma National Guard.

The soldier spends hours unloading mail from outdoor metal crates in heat that reaches 115 degrees.

“I have a real important job to me and a lot of other soldiers think so as well.”

The soldier is with the Bravo Battery 1-158th Field Artillery at Kandahar Airfield.

“I’ve had people just come up to me, bring me pizza and be like I appreciate all that you do,” said Spc. Hall. “Just to see how happy they are when they get their mail makes me feel good inside.”

It takes anywhere from seven to 21 days for soldiers to receive a care package or letter.
