Social media users can soon check Russian connections

Facebook users will soon know whether they interacted with Russian-linked propaganda during the 2016 presidential election.

Company officials announced on Wednesday the new tool is expected to be available by the end of 2017. Users will be able to see if they followed or liked Instagram accounts and Facebook pages created by the Internet Research Agency between January 2015 and August 2017.

Statement from Facebook:

“It is important that people understand how foreign actors tried to sow division and mistrust using Facebook before and after the 2016 US election. That’s why as we have discovered information, we have continually come forward to share it publicly and have provided it to congressional investigators.”
