A Wisconsin sheriff that suggests people in his county to get a gun and defend themselves against criminals has some fans in the Oklahoma legislature.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are singing the praises of Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke.
Rep. Tom Newell, (R) Seminole, Rep. John Bennett, (R) Sequoyah, Sen. Nathan Dahm, (R) Tulsa, and Sen. Ralph Shortey, (R) Oklahoma City told CapitolBeatOK that they support Sheriff Clarke and his message.
Clarke's public service announcement says, "Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we get there. You have a duty to protect yourself and your family. We're partners now. Can I count on you?"
That public service announcement is drawing strong reaction from both sides of the gun control debate.
