Sex offender charged in connection with trying to touch a teenager

A sex offender was charged on Thursday with lewd molestation and a lewd proposal to a child.

Tulsa court records show Peter Nolan is accused of touching a 14-year-old girl and making an indecent proposal to her near his Broken Arrow home.

The victim was able to get away, run to school and call for police.  He was taken into custody a short time later.

Nolan is currently in the Tulsa County Jail.

Original story:

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. —

A convicted sex offender is back behind bars after, Broken Arrow Police say, he grabbed a 14-year-old girl on her way to school.

Just before 8 Thursday morning, Broken Arrow Police officers responded to reports of a sexual battery that had recently occurred.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the girl who was walking on W. Fulton St. on her way to a nearby middle school when a man grabbed her.

After grabbing the victim, the suspect asked if the victim would perform oral sex on him.

The victim broke free from the suspect and ran to her school and told authorities.

Officers canvassed the area and made contact with Peter Nolan, who matched the description of the suspect as given by the victim.

The victim was able to positively identify Nolan as the suspect.

Nolan was then placed into custody for sexual battery.

Upon further investigation, officers discovered that Nolan is a registered sex offender stemming from a sexual battery on a person over sixteen years of age in 2007.

Nolan faces charges of Lewd Molestation of a Minor under 16 and Lewd Proposals to a Minor under 16.

Police tell KRMG that Nolan lives at 3305 S. Fir Ave which is less than 100 yards from Wolf Creek Elementary School and Oliver Middle School.

KRMG is told that Nolan is legally allowed to live that close to the schools because he is "grandfathered in."
