School bus driver had suspended license when he wrecked

A Tulsa Public Schools bus driver who wrecked his bus early Wednesday with a student on board had a suspended license and should not have been behind the wheel.

It happened about 6:30 a.m. near E. 41st St. and S. 145th E. Avenue.

That's the word from TPD Cpl. Brian Collum who spoke with KRMG at the scene of the crash

The newly-paved road has a sharp drop off at the shoulder, and the bus dropped off the right side of the eastbound lane, then overcorrected, spun and rolled on its side approximately 20 feet from the roadway.

The little girl on board and the driver both escaped injury.

The bus driver, Charles West, had a citation for an expired tag which he had never paid, which is why his license was suspended.

Collum said West will be cited for inattentive driving and driving on a suspended license.
