Sapulpa firefighters battled a blaze that caused extensive damage to a house at 2311 South Mounds in Sapulpa.
The fire was reported about 1:35 a.m. Friday.
Gary Kruse with the News On 6 says firemen "arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the roof over the garage. They were quickly able to extinguish the fire and gave credit to one resident who shut the door as they were leaving, keeping the fire from spreading throughout the house."
Kruse tells us a neighbor near the scene thinks that the hot water heater in the garage may have started the fire.
He says a family of five people were inside the house when the fire started.
They were able to get out safely.
Sapulpa officials say the fire is under investigation.
The Red Cross is assisting the family that was displaced by the fire.
