Bill Wellman is a patriot but he’s also a businessman. Wellman admits he came up with the idea of playing TAPS at dusk every night with a little of both in mind.
Wellman works for a company that sells digital timing boxes like the ones used to turn on streetlights at night.
The same kind of timer would be used to play TAPS at dusk, helping to gin up a little revenue for the company.
Wellman told the Indianapolis Star "you just set the ZIP code and the local time and add an MP3 file and let it rip."
Valparaiso, Indiana is already onboard with the idea and two other towns Portage and Crown Point are considering it as well.
There are some detractors though.
Some say hearing the tune every night would make it less powerful and others contend that it would be a downer.
