'Resurrection doctor' getting international attention

Dr. Sam Parnia is just the guy you want to see if you’re dead.

Parnia is getting quite the reputation for breathing life into patients who have been dead for hours.

Parnia admits it’s no miracle but instead his devotion to the belief that most medical professionals and hospitals give up on patients too quickly.

He also thinks too many procedures are outdated and not in the best interest of the patient.

Parnia says better techniques and more determination will save as many as 40,000 lives a year in the US.

The doctor’s greatest success comes from cardiac arrest patients. Those resuscitated at his clinic have a 33% chance of survival.

Compare that to the 16% average at most US hospitals and you may be checking your insurance to see if Parnia is “in network.”

One key is Parnia’s insistence on using machines to conduct CPR.

The process is called ECMO and it cools the body while it circulates and oxygenates the blood giving a much better chance of survival.
