TULSA - A resident heard a commotion outside of his home before grabbing his shotgun and shooting a man who was burglarizing his SUV near 31st and Highway 169.
The suspect was shot in the leg outside a house located near 10600 East 33rd Street around 4:46 a.m. Wednesday.
Tulsa police tell us that after the resident confronted the suspect, the resident used a shotgun to shoot the suspect in the leg.
The suspect was taken to the hospital.
KRMG spoke to the homeowner, John Becker, after police left the scene.
He told us he deliberately aimed low, because he didn't want to kill the accused burglar.
He added that a couple of nights before, he believes he saw the same man burglarizing a neighbor's car across the street.
The man ran when Berger yelled at him that time, but this time, Becker told KRMG, the man reached into his pocket as if going for a weapon, and that's when the homeowner decided to open fire.
We're told police recovered items in the suspect's pocket that were taken from the SUV.
The district attorney will decide whether the shooter will face charges for the shooting.
